Who is Luis Alberto Moreno?
Luis Alberto Moreno is a Colombian executive with extensive experience in economic development, investment, diplomacy, and multilateral organizations. For decades, he has held leadership positions related to economic growth, international relations, regional integration, and development financing, gaining a unique perspective on Latin America and its relationship with the global economy.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Economics from Florida Atlantic University and an MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management. He was also a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University. Before joining major international organizations, he worked in both the public and private sectors in Colombia and held various positions related to economic policy.
He served as Colombia’s Minister of Economic Development and later as his country’s ambassador to the United States from 1998 to 2005. That same year, he became president of the Inter-American Development Bank. During his fifteen years at the helm of the IDB, he played a key role in the institution’s transformation and in initiatives related to infrastructure, technology, investment, integration, innovation, and regional development.
After completing his term as president of the IDB in 2020, he embarked on a new phase of his career focused primarily on the private sector. Since 2021, he has served as Managing Director of Allen & Company and sits on various boards, including that of Dow. His career experience enables him to analyze Latin America from the perspectives of investment, economic development, diplomacy, innovation, and international cooperation.
