Felipe Larraín is a prominent Chilean economist, recognized for his expertise in economic policies and his role in Chile's development. He was born on August 14, 1958 and studied Commercial Engineering at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He later obtained a PhD in Economics at Harvard University, where he developed a solid academic background in economics and finance.
Larraín has served as Chile's Minister of Finance in two terms, during the governments of Sebastián Piñera (2010-2014 and 2018-2019). During his tenure, he implemented reforms aimed at fostering economic growth, investment and fiscal stability. His focus on fiscal discipline and sustainable growth earned him national and international recognition, standing out for leading the country in times of great economic challenges.
In addition to his role in the public sector, Larraín has had a relevant academic career, being professor of Economics at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and author of several books and articles on economics. Among his most influential publications is the book Macroeconomics in the Global Economy, co-written with Jeffrey Sachs, which has been widely used in universities around the world.
