Biography / Speaker Info
Miguel Kiguel cemented his academic training with a B.A. in Economics from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), which he complemented with a Ph.D. in Economics from Columbia University in the United States. After obtaining his Ph.D., he taught at prestigious U.S. universities such as the University of Maryland and Georgetown University, which provided him with a deep insight into economic theory and monetary policy. Subsequently, he continued his teaching and research work at the Centro de Estudios Macroeconómicos de Argentina (CEMA) and at the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella.
His extensive career in the public and multilateral sector includes roles of great responsibility in the Argentine government, where he served as Deputy Secretary of Financing in the Ministry of Economy and Deputy General Manager of Economy and Finance in the Central Bank of Argentina. Additionally, he was the President of Banco Hipotecario S.A., a key position in the financial system. In the international arena, he worked as Chief Economist at the World Bank and researcher at the Institute for International Economics in Washington, D.C., acquiring a global perspective on crisis management and stabilization policies.
Currently, Mr. Kiguel is the CEO of Econviews, an economic and financial consulting firm that advises large corporations, financial institutions in Argentina and abroad, and Latin American governments. His firm distinguishes itself by fusing rigorous macroeconomic analysis with a deep understanding of financial markets and risk. He is a sought-after consultant focusing on crucial issues such as inflation, exchange rate policies and the persistent challenges of the Argentine economy.
The economist has captured much of his analysis of his country's economic history in his book Las Crisis Económicas Argentinas: una historia de ajustes y desajustes (Argentina's Economic Crises: A History of Adjustments and Mismatches). Through his publications and conferences, Kiguel always reminds us of the high costs Argentina pays for the recurrent tendency to deviate from the laws of the market and seek shortcuts, which only leads to the repetition of high inflation and stagnation scenarios.
