Daniel Orsanic is an Argentine tennis player, coach and sports leader, whose name is engraved in the history of national sports for being the captain of the team that achieved the feat of winning the Davis Cup for the first and only time for Argentina. Born in Buenos Aires in 1968, he initially stood out as a professional tennis player, where he developed an important career in doubles, an area that would later define his strategic vision as a team leader.
As a player, Orsanic was a professional between 1989 and 2001. He reached the 24th position in the ATP ranking in doubles in 1998, accumulating 8 titles in the circuit and becoming semifinalist twice in the Roland Garros Grand Slam (1997 and 2000). After his retirement, Orsanic focused his career on teaching and coaching, working with elite players such as Pablo Cuevas and Thomaz Bellucci, and serving as a tutor for the Argentine Tennis Association (AAT) Tennis Faculty.
The highlight of his career came in 2015, when he took over as Captain of the Argentine Davis Cup team, a position he combined with that of Director of Development of the AAT. Under his leadership, the team achieved a historic feat by winning the "Ensaladera de Plata" in 2016, defeating Croatia in Zagreb. Orsanic was recognized for instituting a new management model based on humility, commitment and the elimination of ego, managing to bring together figures such as Juan MartÃn del Potro, Federico Delbonis and Leonardo Mayer to put the team above individualities.
After stepping down as captain in 2018, Orsanic continued to be linked to tennis as a commentator for ESPN. His leadership approach, which prioritizes process over outcome and accountability over pettiness, remains a model of sports management that he shares in numerous conferences and dissertations. The 2016 victory, a feat always achieved away from home, is an enduring testament to his ability as a strategist and team builder.
