Gustavo Alfaro

Gustavo Alfaro is a former soccer player, soccer coach, and sports commentator from Argentina, with an extensive and varied career as a head coach for clubs and national teams in Latin America and the Middle East. He is known for his methodical style, his focus on tactical strategy, and his ability to work with a wide variety of teams, adapting his methods to the resources available.

Alfaro began his playing career as a midfielder, but he has made his most significant impact as a coach, a role he took on in 1992. His career has included stints with numerous Argentine clubs, such as Atlético de Rafaela (where he made his coaching debut), Olimpo, Quilmes (with whom he secured promotion in 2003), San Lorenzo, Rosario Central, Tigre, and Huracán. His most notable stint in Argentina was with Arsenal de Sarandí, a modest club that he led to national and international titles, including the Copa Sudamericana, marking a milestone in the club’s history.

In addition to his success with club teams, Alfaro coached Boca Juniors in 2019, one of the most high-pressure periods of his career.
