María Magdalena Aicega is a former Argentine field field hockey player, nutritionist and sports journalist, recognized as one of the historical figures and founders of the iconic Argentine Women's National Team, known as "Las Leonas" (The Lionesses). Born in Buenos Aires on November 1, 1973, her 16-year career with the albiceleste jersey is a testament to leadership, passion and the emergence of a world field hockey power. Aicega performed masterfully as a defender, standing out for her defensive solidity, but also for her effectiveness as one of the team's main and most feared penalty corner shooters.

She began her sporting career at the age of seven at Club Belgrano Athletic, a club she considers her second home and with which she maintained a deep bond, even serving as coach of lower divisions. Her talent and commitment led her to the national team, where her leadership was fundamental for the transformation of the team in the early 2000s, a process that culminated in the birth of the nickname "Las Leonas" (The Lionesses), which symbolizes the team's determination and dedication. She was the captain and an authoritative voice within the squad that revolutionized women's sports in Argentina.

Magui" Aicega's record with Las Leonas is extraordinary and includes the gold medal at the 2002 World Championship in Perth, the team's most prized achievement in that period. She was also a triple medalist in the Olympic Games: she won the Silver medal in Sydney 2000 and two Bronze medals in Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008. In addition, he won multiple titles in the prestigious Champions Trophy (two gold medals in 2001 and 2008) and four gold medals in the Pan American Games. Throughout his career, he received numerous individual awards such as the Silver Olympia and the Clarín Consecration Award.

After her retirement from the national team in 2008, Aicega did not disassociate herself from sports. She used her training as a nutritionist to advise institutions, and later developed a successful career as a sports journalist and commentator in media such as TNT Sports and various radio programs. She has also held relevant positions as director of ENARD.
