Luis Scola is a former Argentine basketball player, widely considered an icon of the National Team and a key figure of basketball's historic "Golden Generation". Born in Buenos Aires on April 30, 1980, Scola played the power forward position for 25 seasons as a professional. His career was distinguished by a tireless work ethic, exceptional leadership and remarkable longevity, which allowed him to compete in the most important leagues in the world, including the Spanish ACB and the NBA.
His club career began in Argentina with Ferro Carril Oeste, but his consecration came in Europe with Tau Cerámica (now Saski Baskonia) of Spain's ACB League, where he played from 1998 to 2007. In Spain, Scola became a dominant player, winning the ACB League title (2002) and winning three Copas del Rey, as well as being awarded ACB MVP twice. In 2007, he made the jump to the NBA, where he excelled for ten seasons with teams such as the Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns, Indiana Pacers, Toronto Raptors and Brooklyn Nets.
Scola's greatest honors and recognitions were obtained with the Argentine National Team, of which he is the leading scorer in history and an irreplaceable reference. With the "Golden Generation", he achieved the most important sporting milestone of national basketball: the Gold Medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, as well as the Bronze Medal in Beijing 2008. Scola holds the record of having participated in five World Championships and five Olympic Games. His leadership remained strong as he led the team to the Silver Medal at the 2019 World Cup in China, demonstrating his relevance at an advanced age for the sport.
After retiring from professional activity in 2021, Luis Scola has continued to be involved in sports from a managerial perspective. He currently serves as CEO of Pallacanestro Varese in Italy, the club he chose to close his career. His vision is focused on a comprehensive management and development project for basketball. For his legacy, which combines unparalleled sporting achievements with exemplary conduct, he was recognized with the Konex Platinum Award in 2020 and was inducted into the Spanish Basketball Hall of Fame in 2023.
