José Cordeiro studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he obtained his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering, with a specialization in Economics and Languages. His undergraduate thesis considered the dynamic model of NASA's Space Station Freedom (today's International Space Station).
He later studied International Economics and Comparative Politics at Georgetown University, and then completed his MBA at the Institut Européen d'Administration des Affaires (INSEAD) in Fontainebleau, France, where he specialized in Finance and Globalization. He began his doctorate at MIT, which he continued years later in Tokyo and finally received his PhD at the Universidad Simon Bolivar in Venezuela. During his studies, Dr. Cordeiro worked at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Vienna, and later at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington.
For several years he advised the world's largest oil companies, including Agip, BP, ChevronTexaco, ExxonMobil, PDVSA, Pemex, Petrobras, Repsol, Shell and Total. Later, in Paris, he collaborated with the international consulting firm Booz-Allen & Hamilton, where he specialized in the areas of strategy, finance and restructuring.
He is currently Director of the Venezuelan Node of the Millennium Project, Visiting Researcher at the Institute of Developing Economies (IDE - JETRO) in Tokyo, Japan, and Professor and Energy Advisor at Singularity University (SU) at NASA Ames, Silicon Valley, USA.
