Who is Darío Sztajnszrajber?
Darío Sztajnszrajber is an Argentine philosopher, essayist, professor, and popularizer of philosophy, known for his work in bringing philosophy out of academia and into the mass media, theater, and social media. Born in Buenos Aires in 1968, his style is a blend of irony, passion, and the deconstruction of common-sense notions, making critical thinking accessible and popular. He is considered one of the most important figures in the popularization of philosophy in Spanish.
Darío Sztajnszrajber holds a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and has taught at all educational levels, from elementary school through graduate school, including courses at FLACSO. His teaching and outreach methodology is based on dismantling preconceived notions and generating conflict and tension, inviting the public to question the status quo. He himself has noted that his work has a political purpose: to bridge the “divide” between the popular and the esoteric aspects of knowledge.
His work is widely known in the media. He hosted the acclaimed television show *Mentira la verdad* (Canal Encuentro), a series that blended philosophy with fiction; it was nominated for an Emmy Award and won the prestigious Japan Prize. On the radio, he hosted programs such as Demasiado humano (Futurock) and was a columnist for the popular series Metro y Medio. He has also brought philosophy to the theater with successful shows like Desencajados: filosofía + música and Salir de la Caverna, demonstrating his ability to fill theaters with the rigor of thought.
As a writer, he is the author of several bestsellers, including *What Is Philosophy For? A Short Treatise on Demolition*, *Philosophy in 11 Sentences*, and the *Philosophy by Hammerblows* series (Volumes 1 and 2), a title that evokes Nietzsche. His commitment to the democratization of knowledge was recognized with the Konex Award in the Popularization category in 2017. His enduring work in the public sphere continues to demonstrate that philosophy is a liberating tool that always goes against common sense.
