Michelle Bachelet was the first woman in Chilean history to be elected to the highest governmental office, and the 4th of the Concertación de Partidos por la Democracia in 20 years in power, from 2006 to 2010.
Marked by a social and development seal, his presidency had to face the world economic crisis of 2008, raising his approval ratings due to the positive evaluation that the Chilean people made of his presidency, reaching the highest rating of any president at the end of his term, ending with an 84.1% approval rating.
On a global scale, Bachelet had a strong influence during her presidency, consistently appearing in Forbes magazine as one of the 20 most powerful women in the world, as well as in TIME's ranking as the 15th most influential person in 2008.
Following her presidency, Bachelet was appointed Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations to head the newly created UN Women, reaching the highest level within the administrative structure of the global institution, just below the Secretary-General.
