Biography / Speaker Info
Marco Gercke is a cybersecurity and cybercrime expert, recognized worldwide for his work in this field. He is founder and director of the Cybercrime Research Institute in Cologne, an independent research center focused on digital security. Throughout his career, he has given more than 700 lectures in over 100 countries and has advised governments, major corporations and international organizations on the legal, strategic and political challenges of cybercrime.
Gercke is a professor of international criminal law and cybersecurity at the University of Cologne and has worked on key global initiatives, such as advising the UN and the ITU (International Telecommunication Union). In addition, he has published more than 100 articles and books, including works such as Understanding Cybercrime and Hard and Soft Law Options in the Response to Cybercrime, which address various issues of cybercrime and online security.
A key aspect of his work is the "cyber incident simulations" he organizes with governments and corporations. These simulations, which are not technical but rather "serious gaming" in nature, allow participants to test their capabilities against complex cyber-attacks. These simulations have been conducted for high-profile entities such as the World Bank and the European Central Bank, and have been included in prominent programs such as the Munich Security Conference.
