Didier Queloz is an astronomer, lecturer, teacher and researcher. He studied an undergraduate degree and a PhD in Philosophy and Astrophysics at the University of Geneva. He is a world reference for his discoveries in astrophysics.
He is a professor at the University of Geneva and at the University of Cambridge, where he also leads a comprehensive research program. His research work was revolutionary in astronomy and in the understanding of the formation and evolution of planets: together with his colleague Michel Mayor they discovered the first planet outside the solar system in 1995 (until then the solar system was the only basis of human knowledge about planets and life in the universe). Since that discovery, he has published scientific articles and given lectures to help advance the detection and measurement capabilities of exoplanet systems.
Among his many recognitions, he received the Nobel Prize in Physics (2019) thanks to his contributions to a better understanding of the universe.
